Climate-change Pantokrator

This is an image Marcus put together for church at Footscray Baptist on Sunday:

I was reading the Revised Common Lectionary on Sunday with Luke getting all apocalyptic.  What with ” Son of Man coming on cloud”, “seas roaring, consider the trees… signs of the times etc.  With our hottest November since 1868 being announced it [...]

Branch of David

Tomorrow night I’ll be using this animation at Collins Street Baptist Church, for the first Sunday of Advent.

It is based on the lectionary reading from Jeremiah 33:14-16. Just before this section, Jeremiah has been talking about how God has allowed the Babylonians to destroy Israel, because of their evil. But he says they will have another [...]

Blythe’s Advent reflections

I mentioned a couple of days back that Advent starts on Sunday. Advent is the time in the church calendar when we await the birth of Jesus, which we remember on Christmas Day. Blythe Toll has put together some reflections for Advent (scripture readings, queries, video), which you can find here.

Praying with blocks

I was organising staff prayers this afternoon. I’d been reading The Artist’s Way that morning. In the part I was reading, Julia Cameron was talking about how we’re born creative (created in the image of the Creator, as co-creators), but often as we’re growing up we’re taught not to be. Cameron encourages her readers to [...]

Christmas ideas

Marx was asking me the other day if I had any worship ideas for Christmas. Was wondering about making a video that looks something like this image (from the Winter Solstice at CSBC), and doing something to do with the idea of ‘peace on Earth’.

All Things in Common

So last weekend I was down at Phillip Island for TEAR Australia’s Victoria Gathering. This year’s theme was ‘All Things in Common’. I was involved in running the ‘Hospitality and Inclusion’ workshop stream, and I was also setting up some installation art in the main auditorium and the ‘Praying in Hope’ space.
When we went down [...]

World Vision Prayer Day

On Tuesday and Wednesday I was out at Belgrave, helping Mark Pierson set up for World Vision Australia’s staff prayer day. Mark was curating some interactive installations around the grounds of Belgrave Heights Convention Centre, based on the theme of ‘Lingering with Intent’. Here are some photos:

Praying with candles

During our prayer times, before lunch in Credo Café, we often light candles as symbols of our prayer. This might seem strange for a community that was started by Baptists (Baptists traditionally prefer words rather than visuals).
One of the reasons we use candles is that they help us to see. The first candle we light [...]

Urban Seed at Wipeout

Last night Tim and I visited Wipeout, which is a youth group at St Hilary’s in Kew, for year 7 to 9.
Tim talked a bit with the kids about homelessness.

Later on we had some time for everyone to interact with a number of stations we’d set up around the space.
