Climate-change Pantokrator

This is an image Marcus put together for church at Footscray Baptist on Sunday:

I was reading the Revised Common Lectionary on Sunday with Luke getting all apocalyptic.  What with ” Son of Man coming on cloud”, “seas roaring, consider the trees… signs of the times etc.  With our hottest November since 1868 being announced it [...]

Branch of David

Tomorrow night I’ll be using this animation at Collins Street Baptist Church, for the first Sunday of Advent.

It is based on the lectionary reading from Jeremiah 33:14-16. Just before this section, Jeremiah has been talking about how God has allowed the Babylonians to destroy Israel, because of their evil. But he says they will have another [...]

Blythe’s Advent reflections

I mentioned a couple of days back that Advent starts on Sunday. Advent is the time in the church calendar when we await the birth of Jesus, which we remember on Christmas Day. Blythe Toll has put together some reflections for Advent (scripture readings, queries, video), which you can find here.

Praying with blocks

I was organising staff prayers this afternoon. I’d been reading The Artist’s Way that morning. In the part I was reading, Julia Cameron was talking about how we’re born creative (created in the image of the Creator, as co-creators), but often as we’re growing up we’re taught not to be. Cameron encourages her readers to [...]

Christmas ideas

Marx was asking me the other day if I had any worship ideas for Christmas. Was wondering about making a video that looks something like this image (from the Winter Solstice at CSBC), and doing something to do with the idea of ‘peace on Earth’.

Urban Seed at Wipeout

Last night Tim and I visited Wipeout, which is a youth group at St Hilary’s in Kew, for year 7 to 9.
Tim talked a bit with the kids about homelessness.

Later on we had some time for everyone to interact with a number of stations we’d set up around the space.
Station 1: Home

‘Let there be light’

For church last night, Fraser facilitated the service, Ros Wright from Whitley College preached and I led us in intercessory prayer.
For the intercessory prayer I had a sand tray with a candle in it, but instead of sand I filled it with dirt and water and rocks.

Church of All Nations

This morning I went to the Church of All Nations, because the Indigenous Hospitality House residents were taking part in the church service. They told the kids the story about Tiddalik, then Willie Picket from Narana shared a bit of his story, and then the IHH residents led us in some alt worship based around Ezekiel’s vision of the [...]

Pentecost at Footscray

Marcus was doing a Pentecost service with the young folk at Footscray Baptist on Sunday. I’d agreed to help him with it, because I thought we were doing it the following weekend (we had a few changes of plans, and were both too busy to communicate properly). Because it was a week earlier than I [...]
