Did these at Pain in the Arts yesterday, thinking about next Sunday (Advent 2)’s lectionary reading from Luke 3:1-6:

This Sunday will be the first Sunday of Advent, so I’ve been having a bit of a look at the lectionary readings. Jeremiah 33 talks about how Israel is pretty much doomed because of their evil. But then it goes on to talk about God causing ‘a righteous branch to spring up for David’. So [...]

So last weekend I was down at Phillip Island for TEAR Australia’s Victoria Gathering. This year’s theme was ‘All Things in Common’. I was involved in running the ‘Hospitality and Inclusion’ workshop stream, and I was also setting up some installation art in the main auditorium and the ‘Praying in Hope’ space.
When we went down [...]

I spent all day on Monday doing a Bible walk around Melbourne CBD with some people from YWAM in Adelaide. Towards the end of the walk we visited the Casino, to read from Mark’s Gospel about Jesus’ visits to the Temple in Jerusalem.
While we were at the Casino I found myself thinking about the relationships [...]

Early this morning Sarah Scott-Webb (from our Youth & Schools team) led us through an examen for debrief/prayers.
Afterwards Andreana took the Mission Exposure punters up to visit St Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy. I stayed back to cook lunch in Credo. (Chicken soup and vegetable soup.)
At Credo gathering Spriggsy inited us to think about [...]

We started this morning (Monday, day three of Mission Exposure) with some time to debrief and pray about what’s going through everyone’s heads. Alice was reflecting a bit on an encounter she had on Sunday night with an indigenous person in Credo, and on the differences between indigenous/colonist relationships in Australia and Aotearoa (New Zealand).
We [...]

This morning (Sunday) I took Mike and Rachel C to St Nicholas’ Antiochian Orthodox Church. (The others went to St Michael’s and CSBC.) I really like going to St Nicholas’. Mike was saying that it’s like stepping into 2000 years of history. He said that everything seemed so unfamiliar, but it was also clear that [...]
