Praying with blocks

I was organising staff prayers this afternoon. I’d been reading The Artist’s Way that morning. In the part I was reading, Julia Cameron was talking about how we’re born creative (created in the image of the Creator, as co-creators), but often as we’re growing up we’re taught not to be. Cameron encourages her readers to [...]

All Things in Common

So last weekend I was down at Phillip Island for TEAR Australia’s Victoria Gathering. This year’s theme was ‘All Things in Common’. I was involved in running the ‘Hospitality and Inclusion’ workshop stream, and I was also setting up some installation art in the main auditorium and the ‘Praying in Hope’ space.
When we went down [...]

Praying with candles

During our prayer times, before lunch in Credo Café, we often light candles as symbols of our prayer. This might seem strange for a community that was started by Baptists (Baptists traditionally prefer words rather than visuals).
One of the reasons we use candles is that they help us to see. The first candle we light [...]

Urban Seed at Wipeout

Last night Tim and I visited Wipeout, which is a youth group at St Hilary’s in Kew, for year 7 to 9.
Tim talked a bit with the kids about homelessness.

Later on we had some time for everyone to interact with a number of stations we’d set up around the space.
Station 1: Home

Examen, St Mary’s, Bible soaps, Credo and cardboard

Early this morning Sarah Scott-Webb (from our Youth & Schools team) led us through an examen for debrief/prayers.
Afterwards Andreana took the Mission Exposure punters up to visit St Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy. I stayed back to cook lunch in Credo. (Chicken soup and vegetable soup.)
At Credo gathering Spriggsy inited us to think about [...]

‘Let there be light’

For church last night, Fraser facilitated the service, Ros Wright from Whitley College preached and I led us in intercessory prayer.
For the intercessory prayer I had a sand tray with a candle in it, but instead of sand I filled it with dirt and water and rocks.

Meekonomics

From Twitturgies:
The meek will inherit the earth: do business with them.
The poor are blessed: seek blessing among them.
God teach me the laws of meekonomics

Laneway Labyrinth with City Mob

After our Seeds City Mob dinner tonight I led us on a Laneway Labyrinth walk.
Before we left on the walk, Dave decided to hang up in our laneway some rather dreadful art that another Urban Seed resident got out of a dumpster several years ago:

On a Laneway Labyrinth walk, we spend about an hour walking silently [...]

Seeds Beads

At our Urban Seed Sabbath Day (first Friday of the month) the other day we made Seeds Beads:

The Seeds Beads were Sarah (from the Norlane mob)’s idea. For Lent she wanted to try and work out a way of praying using beads (like the Catholic rosary).

The Unburned Bush

This is an animation about the unburned bush, which I produced for ‘Prayers for Melbourne’ at Collins Street Baptist Church, last week. I tried to upload it after I used it, but I had to work out how to make Vimeo videos work in WordPress. Then after the weekend I didn’t know if it was [...]
